Using an RSS reader for web-site browsing

Spot of techy instruction, mainly for Benson, who was observing how difficult it was keeping tabs on all our correspondents web-sites. Thought we could try a little specialist education for Benson and attempt to get him using "RSS" (Really Simple Syndication) to get automatic updates from web-sits that he frequently visits. When he spots an interesting article (or more typically an attractive women) he can click the RSS link and away to that web-site.

My instructions are basically.

  1. Hit Google.com, search for Google RSS Reader.
  2. Get a Google Account -- just need to use and register an email address.
  3. Sign-in to your Google RSS Reader.
  4. Find the "Subscribe" button; drag it to a toolbar (works with any browser; Internet Explorer, Firefox, Flock, etc.)

Here's a quick intro to getting started with RSS which I thought might aid Benson or anyone else learning to use RSS.

When I get a page that doesn't include an RSS feed (i.e. Google RSS Reader tells you that there is no feed) I go via a third-party web-site tool Page2RSS to provide the RSS feed.
