- Thumbknot – a stopper knot

- Clovehitch – quick knot for spars and batons. Starter for most spar hitches.
- Timber Hitch – quick way to knot and tow a log.
- Guy Knot – used to create a running guy for a tent erection.
- Sheepshank – used to shorten a piece of rope.
