1. Thumbknot – a stopper knot
2. Figure of Eight – a better stopper knot
3. Reef Knot – use a reef knot when tying shoelaces; laces will fall correctly either side of your shoe
4. Sheetbend – joining two ropes of different thickness.
5. Carrick Bend – a posh reef knot – joining two ropes of equal thickness.
6. Bowline – for securing a bow-line / rope to the bow of a yacht.
7. Clovehitch – quick knot for spars and batons. Starter for most spar hitches.
8. Timber Hitch – quick way to knot and tow a log.
9. Guy Knot – used to create a running guy for a tent erection.
10. Sheepshank – used to shorten a piece of rope.
